Plot:

Hee Tae becomes the pride of Gwangju when he enters Seoul National University College of Medicine with top marks. His best friend Kyung Soo, an avid pro-democracy activist, insists that they open an illegal clinic for students on the run from the government. One day, a factory worker is injured during a protest. In exchange for the costs of discreetly transporting himself and the factory worker to his hometown, Hee Tae must go to a meeting with a potential marriage partner arranged by his father. At this meeting, Hee Tae meets Myung Hee, a nurse persevering through the hardships of life. She only agrees to go to this meeting in place of her friend Soo Ryeon, because she needs to come up with the airfare to go study in Germany. However, Myung Hee and Hee Tae end up falling in love. In May of 1980, amidst the heated passion and cries for democracy that reverberated throughout Gwangju, Hee Tae and Myung Hee find themselves in a twist of fate... Mini Review:

The story is as true as its name, different stories about different youths and how their lives changed in that one May.

Initially, the story is about to get to know the characters, what makes them who they were and what they are going through to create their future self.

And in the center of it is the Summer Love story of our main leads. While this had enough substance to become a wonderful story itself, the backdrop it is set against finally arrives.

Having watched other series/movies related to the history of that may, having gained more knowledge while coming across articles, still nothing is enough to prepare for when the event actually starts happening.

And for our leads, no words can be enough, be it their personality, their personal problems, their love for each other, every time they outdid themselves and chose to put their profession on front regardless of how scared they were.

Almost for 90% of the cast this was their 1st show I was watching, and they made it so believable so real, that every emotion was even more heightened.

Ending Notes:

🔺A 12 episodes drama, perfectly captures and makes time stand still on that particular May.

🔺It’s an emotional roller-coaster, be warned.

🔺Shout out to Lee Gwang Gu (Kim Eun Soo)

🔺KBS2 is definitely on a roll!

Final Rating: 4/5👀
