Mini Review:

A story about uncovering a deep buried secret and the violent outcome it leads to, this OCN thriller was all about that, which made the synopsis highly misleading as it had little to do with National Assembly or politics. The plot begins when Kim Seo Hui’s husband suddenly goes missing after her father’s death and with the help of detective Jo Tae Sik they try to solve the mystery and get her husband back.

The initial thrill and mystery was all exciting, to track back all the steps up to her husband ,what was he working on before he left or why was he suddenly seen at a different location days after his alleged disappearance. But as with most shows, midway through it lost its track and started making up unnecessary back stories of all characters.

The lead characters had little depth and felt almost silly. Even if I could try to understand Kim Seo Hui’s character as a simple well protected girl who was suddenly thrust into these situation, detective Jo Tae Sik made no sense half the time, as he himself did little investigation and mostly depended on information provided already. Also none of the supporting casts were impressionable, but still will give credit to Jeon Ho Gyu (who actually did some investigations) and In Dong Gu (who also took his work seriously).

Also the secret that the story revolves around was almost out in the open for anyone interested to find about it. Maybe those people who wanted to keep the secret buried should have tries to get rid of articles or the involving documents in the 1st place instead of trying to kill everyone.

The ending picked up some of the pace back and tie up the loose ends but still made little logic to the Characters drastic decisions.

Ending Notes:

🔺OCN thrillers are known for violence, so not for faint hearted

🔺The Series tried to show bonding but couldn’t actually show depth or logic of the characters which helped little in sympathizing with the characters

🔺The initial thrill is lost among plot-holes and unnecessary background stories. Give it a try if interested in secrets among secrets with a bit of thrill

🔺Also watch if you are Lee Min Ki fan (Like Me)

I like watching thrillers and OCN shows try to show the plot to its true self, The Lies Within was not up to the mark for me. Will be waiting for a better thriller also next work of Lee Min Ki.

Final Rating: 2/5 👀
