Someday Or One Day
April 15, 2020Plot:
The year is 2019. The 27 year-old Huang Yu Xuan terribly misses her boyfriend Wang Quan Sheng, who has been missing for two years and is presumed dead. Her birthday wish for this year is to "see him." The year is 1998. The 17 year-old Chen Yun Ru is in love with a boy who doesn't feel the same way for her. Her birthday wish for this year is to "become the girl Li Zi Wei likes." One day, Huang Yu Xuan receives a walkman and a music cassette from an unknown person. She falls asleep listening to its songs and wakes up to see Wang Quang Sheng sitting by her side. She believes she has finally been reunited with her boyfriend, but there's a very big twist. She learns that she is no longer a 27-year-old woman but a high schooler named Chen Yun Ru, who is in the hospital recuperating from a head injury. And the man by her bedside is not her boyfriend after all, but a schoolmate named Li Zi Wei. Trapped in what appears to be the past, living another person's life, Chen Yun Ru's death in 1999 will be her death if she doesn't figure out how the girl landed in the hospital. All the while, Li Zi Wei finds himself strangely drawn to the girl who used to be Chen Yun Ru, despite the fact that he knows his closest friend Mo Jun Jie has had a crush on her... Can true love find a way to bridge a seemingly insurmountable time gap?

Mini Review:
Strangely
before watching this drama, 1st time I had seen Greg Hsu, was in
Meet Me @1006 which also had a similar concept of time travel and mystery, but
from the 1st episode of this series it’s quite apparent how
different the two themes are. This is a story covering love and friendship
across time or time travel to be exact.
In
between the packed storytelling, the difference between the two timelines had
been best created by Alice Ke for me, her wonderful acting made it very much
apparent how the two characters and the timeline are different. The feeling of
friendship she had with Li Zi Wei and Mo Jun Jie was absolutely different to the
love and relation she had with Wang Quang Sheng.
At some
point, I kept rooting for her to stay in 1998 and keep living as Chen Yun Ru
with her family dynamics and besties and at the same time I kept wondering when
she would come back to 2019, and reunite with Wang Quang Sheng.
Also the
other pillar of the story Greg Hsu was an absolute delight to watch, with all
his emotions on his sleeve and giving his 100%, be in friendship or
relationship, in the past or present timeline, it’s impossible to not fall for
him.
Like
most time travel dramas, the show was confusing at times and I had to pay real
close attention to keep up with all the worlds. But the show did well in
covering and tying up all aspects.
And at the core of the show the song connecting all the timeline Wu bai “Last Dance” is a beautiful song, it has a captivating essence to it and special mention to the “broken audio” moment, its makes me excited for the next scenario.
Though
the mystery may have taken a back seat for me, the love and the chemistry
between the leads was the one that kept the show brightened and running for me.
Ending Notes:
Watch
for the friendship bond and school life and the underlying social issues
highlighted.
Watch
for the absolute burning chemistry between the leads.
Watch
for the intriguing time travel and mystery suspense. (The only time travel
drama I have completed till now).
Also Wu
Bai “Last Dance” is a delightfully beautiful song, which you can keep humming
all through the series and even after it.
Final Rating: 3.5/5
